The most recent book on the village is ‘The Parish Book of Cerne Abbas – Abbey and After’ by Vivian and Patricia Vale. The book covers the history of the village from earliest times, but essentially celebrates the last 150 years. It is based on many years’ research of a wide range of parish records and personal reminiscences from characters across the parish. Sorry, this book is currently out of print
The Society has produced a fully illustrated Guide entitled ‘St Mary’s Church, Cerne Abbas -the Building and its Meaning’.This is a guide book with a difference. It tells the reader about the history and architecture of the church, but also addresses questions such as: Why is it there? Why is it like it is? What is its purpose? What is its inner meaning?
